Product Overview
Tested in accordance with UL752, Republic offers all 8 levels of bullet resistant protection ranging from 9mm handguns (Level 1) up to 7.62mm military assault rifles (Level 8). All bullet resistant doors come standard with polystyrene or mineral wool core for interior or exterior applications. These assemblies are designed for installa­tions such as public utility and military buildings, cashier islands & currency exchanges, cellular tower units and any other security location requiring bullet resistance.

Typical Republic Bullet Resistant Construction Details

DE Series doors and ME series frames allow the architect/specifier the highest level of performance and construction flexibility. Listed below are some of the various types of anchorage styles available along with various standard hardware preparations. With these types of high security openings, security is only as good as the weakest link, for this reason Republic recommends that the adjacent walls provide the same level of bullet resistance as Republic’s bullet resistant system

1.3 Submittals

A.
Product Data: Manufacturing specifications,
details of construction, materials, dimensions, hardware preparation, fire
ratings, bullet resistant rating, frame profiles, and installation instructions.

B.
Shop drawings: Show fabrication, installation,
anchorage, and interface of bullet resistant doors and frames with adjacent
construction.

C.
Test Reports: Provided from nationally
accredited testing laboratory indicating and interpreting test results relative
to compliance with performance requirements of installed assemblies.

1.4 Quality Assurance

A.
Bullet Resistant Rating: Certify that the
construction is identical to the Bullet Resistant assembly tested at an
independent testing laboratory in accordance with UL752.

B.
Fire Rating: Certify that the assemblies
furnished comply with NFPA 80, NFPA 252, UL 108, UL 10C and are listed by
Underwriters Laboratories or Warnock Hersey.

1.5 Delivery, Storage and Handling

A.
Deliver doors and frames palletized, wrapped or
crated to provide protection during transit and jobsite storage.

B.
Inspect doors and frames upon delivery for
damage. Minor damage may be repaired provided refinished items are equal in all
respects to new work and acceptable to the Architect and Owner.

C.
All doors and frames shall be stored vertically
under cover. The units shall be placed on at least 4″ high wood sills or
in a manner that will prevent rust or damage. The use of non vented plastic or
canvas shelters that create a humidity chamber shall be avoided. A 1/4″
space between the doors shall be provided to promote air circulation. If the
wrapper on the door becomes wet, it must be removed immediately.

1.6 Warranty

A.
Material and workmanship shall be warranted by
manufacturer for a period of one (1) year from the date of shipment. Warranty
shall apply to replacement, repair, or retrofit of product only.

Part 2 – Products

2.1 Materials

A.
All steel used to manufacture doors, frames,
anchors and accessories shall be in accordance with SDl-100/ANSI A250.8.

B.
Door Core – shall be manufacturer’s proprietary
standard core to achieve specified ratings.

C.
Shop primer shall be manufacturer’s standard
rust inhibitive baked on or air dried shop primer.

D.
Hardware shall be approved/listed per UL752.

2.2 Fabrication

A.
Doors shall be minimum 14 gage (Levels 1 – 8)
1-3/4″ thick, welded, visible seam or seamless construction with out
visible joints on exposed faces.

B.
Reinforce top and bottom with steel channels of
not less than 16 gage.

C.
Door core shall be proprietary bullet resistant
core as tested by manufacturer to meet UL752 rating.

D.
Frames shall be minimum 14 gage, unequal
rabbeted, face welded and ground smooth construction. KD frames are not
permitted. Provide frames with minimum of three anchors per jamb suitable for
adjoining wall construction. Provide anchors of not less then 0.042″ in
thickness or 0.167″ diameter wire.

E.
All frames shall be fully prepared for mortised
hardware and reinforced only for surface mounted hardware. Drilling and/or
tapping shall be completed by others.

F. Provide frames with armor resistant plating per level of protection
specified. (Frames fully grouted do not require additional armor)

Part 3 – EXECUTION

3.1 Installation

A.
Set frames plumb, square, level and at correct
elevations in accordance with manufacturer’s installation instructions.

B.
Fire-rated frames shall be installed in
accordance with NFPA 80.

C. Fully grout all frames in masonry or concrete walls.
